Last Post - at Least for a While

Hey, it's been a long time since I posted any images of the band.  Mostly because I have haven't shot any.  But it could happen again.  We'll just wait and see what happens.

Mike Macchi and the Dons at Bad Abbots - Dan Busler Photography

I've been photographing The Dons; a rock band from Boston, MA for a number of years. Originally the line-up included Mike and Matt Macchi and two of their friends. Mike left the band about a year ago and moved to California, so Matt took that opportunity to start fresh with new members .



One night recently the Dons welcomed Mike Macchi back on stage for a performance at Bad Abbots in Quincy MA., a place familiar to The Dons, seeing that they still play there about once a month.


I think that the Dons audiences miss Mike Macchi. Mike and his fans appear to have a mutual love affair. The best performers do in my opinion.

There was no introduction that Mike was on stage this night ... the band just launched into their first song and I went into action ... shooting images of Mike and the band.

I knew that I wanted to capture this night. I knew that it was going to be special. And the funny thing was that it didn't feel special, it just seemed great.

The Dons recently played Hajjars in Weymouth MA. It's a standard place; you got your food .. drinks .. KENO ( you know what KENO is right ... ?) ... it's like a toliet for your money ... I don't play.

The band had asked me to stop down to get some performance shots and when I created the video/slideshow ( click below) I decided to use the "dreamy" cloud background .

Next time it's back to basic black ... but for now, sit back and enjoy.

... follow-up note 03/06/11 - this was one of the last photo sessions that I did with the Dons - excellent band - in a way we both got something out of it - I gave them tons of great images and marketing ideas - which they still use and I got some great samples to share with my clients.

The band recently did a photo session with me, Dan Busler. It all took place on the top floor of a Boston skyscrapper . The view was incredible, but that also meant that the setting sun was intense, so we did a most of the shots in conference rooms and the hallways.

The Dons are Boston's rock band. They didn't start out with that mission, or tell anyone that they are, but over time, Boston has found them.

They didn't have a direction for marketing, so I offered to help.

Whether they are doing a gig for cancer research, a fallen Boston police officer or just rocking at a local club.
